Mady knows there are students at her school who are hungry and need food. She even did a commercial promoting the Love Pantry. Each day at Audubon Elementary School a different child makes the announcements, and during Mady’s turn, she told the whole school there was food available to take home to those who need it. What Mady didn’t know was that her family needed food, too.
Mady’s family has struggled financially. Her father lost his job two years ago and has since only worked part time. He decided that the military was his second chance at providing for his family, so he enlisted and recently left for basic training in the Army.
“I knew about the Love Pantry through the Audubon Cares program,” Mady’s mother, Michelle, said. “I volunteer with the PTA and helped stock the pantry. I never thought our family would have to ask for help. Until my husband’s paycheck comes in I am counting pennies. I just didn’t have the money to provide Thanksgiving, and this holiday is going to be hard, especially with my husband being gone. Through the Love Pantry, I was able to connect with the Christian Service Center for food for Thanksgiving. Thank you so much for this turkey and the bags of food.”
